  • The grant duration is June 1, 2009 through September 30, 2010

FACTS & ISSUES

  • The Environmental Protection Agency approved the University of Georgia / Athens-Clarke County Unified Government / Washington County joint application to retrofit 253 diesel vehicles.
  • The portion allocated to the Unified Government which will cover all expenses related to the installation of particulate filters on up to 88 vehicles - 47 trucks, 26 buses, and 15 fire trucks.
  • These filters will require little future maintenance.
  • This was the only grant awarded in Georgia
  • ACCUG and UGA will offer in-kind contributions to develop and implement idle reduction strategies using Clean Air Campaign resources.  Dan Geller with UGA's Engineering Outreach Service is the project manager.
